every now and then PSS slows down to a crawl. task manager shows constant 40-90% cpu utilization. menus take forever to open. this affects all the other running programs as well, since PSS seems to hog the resources until it's shut down. restarting the program doesn't fix the problem. it runs fine for hours, sometimes days, and then suddenly starts to stall. what gives?

You have asked a very general question that is impossible to answer. We would need a *lot* more details about your situation to even begin to analyze the problem you are having.

That being said, we have been working on some general performance updates for the next release. Maybe that release will solve your problem.
